This book is the ultimate, user-friendly tool for a busy teacher, with lots of imaginative ideas that can be put into practise immediately and handy links to national curriculum learning objectives. Read more...

What you need is a solution to this puzzle that is not only guaranteed to work but also is simple enough to under- stand even if you're not a mathematical genius.
The problem of restoring a cube to solid colors on all 6 faces is very difficult -far more difficult than near1y any other popular puzzle. As a result many available solutions are also so difficult that understanding them is no easier than solving the puzzle itself. The purpose of this book is to present a complete, quick. step-by-step solution that is both straightforward and effective. No knowledge of mathematics is assumed or necessary.

They're the toughest examples of the most popular logic puzzle types: Find the Missing Figure, Guess the Picture Sequence, Detect What Word or Letter Comes Next, Odd One Out, Missing the Symbols, Number Crunching, Cryptograms, and more. There's a Nightmare Before Christmas puzzle, and Sherlock Holmes returns to solve the mystery of which of three brothers broke his window, plus dozens more too hard to even describe here. And if the questions are rough enough, the drawings, cartoons, and illustrations will add to your bafflement and fun. Read more...

CthulhuTech

Cthulhutech is a game that made a lot of people do a double-take when it was first announced. The bleak, sanity-blasting horror of the Cthulhu Mythos mixed with anime influences such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Guyver, and Macross? It sounded bizarre and to many unfamiliar with the game, it still does.
But I'm here to say that the game absolutely takes the seemingly incompatible parts and makes an incredible whole. The setting takes place in the future when the Earth is under attack on all sides from foul cults, arrogant and disturbing aliens, and incomprehensible monsters. Things look grim, but humanity is still managing to hang on and survive.
There are a lot of different playstyles, anything from street level investigations (similar to classic Call of Cthulhu) to giant mecha military campaigns to government special forces to secret society operatives bonded with extra dimensional beings to fight evil. The mechanics are new, but not terribly difficult to understand. Further, the art for the game is gorgeous and really draws you in to the setting.

Super Street Fighter IV: Prima Official Game Guide

As an avid fighting game player, I picked up Super Street Fighter IV and the Prima strategy guide this past week. After spending a considerable amount of time with the game and the guide, I can say this is 100% a huge improvement over the original Street Fighter IV guide.
The opening section will get any beginner from a scrub to at least an educated player. If you read through the entire opening section you shouldn't have many questions for advanced players and hopefully you won't be spamming Shoryukens online all the time. It even covers some advanced tactics in an easy to understand manner.
The character section is huge, with some characters having up to 10 pages each. However, some of those pages are for artwork and images of the basic attacks. It is nice to see pics of all the outfits though. That's a huge bonus so that I don't have to figure out which one I want by trial and error.
As for the strategies in the character section, unless you're an advanced player, you'll find everything you need to get pretty good with each character. I see that some other people are complaining that the strategies aren't advanced, but I have to disagree with that. You don't get every little detail about every character, but you get the most effective strategies that I see even top players using. Akuma and Ibuki's vortex strategies, Viper's ridiculous high-jump canceling and zoning strategies, a lot of info on Juri and Hakan, Cammy's instant dive kicks, the list goes on and on. You'll easily learn how to conquer the cube in less than 5 minutes every time. My average is about three and a half minutes, and i only do it to impress people. If you learn more of the moves, you actually can finish it in 45 seconds, it's not just a sales pitch, it's possible. This book will teach you how to complete a cube, however, it won't tell you the reasoning. Basically it's a system of moves that work extremely well. I would suggest this book to anyone, especially advanced cubers. You will be able to do the cube faster this way than almost any other way. The author holds/held the world record at less than 20 seconds. Read more...

Liquid lounge womanizers. It has you hooked in seconds. With each page turned, the alluring to creepy Casanova villains and victims come alive. Drinks are shaken not stirred. Jacuzzis overflowing with blondes. Miniskirts and thongs slice the heated air, hanging from the ceiling fan. The Game is a fast-paced, mesmerizing tale of a underground secret society. A study in social psychology, transformations from nerd to stud, emotional self-destruction, evolving into the creation of the seduction industry.
Investigative journalist Neil Strauss of Rolling Stone/NY Times fame provides an exhilarating memoir as he submerses himself in the shadowy lair of pickup artists. Bizarre. Alluring. It`s a cult-like subculture of hipsters who've cracked the persuasion code. Lives dedicated to seducing as many women as possible. Unpredictable story lines. A flurry of celebs.
Harrowing Halls: Dungeon Tiles

As someone who has multiple copies of almost every set made, I can easily say this is one of the best sets yet.
Most of the non-3D tiles in the package have the wood floor pattern. It's similar to the wood floor that is on a few of the older large tiles of building interiors, but not exactly the same. Most of the tiles are plain wood on one side and a fully detailed room or part of a room on the other. With these tiles, you should be able to make the vast majority of any civilized interior space you need. I think the tile shown on the cover is a strange choice since it is not representative of most of the tiles in the set.
There are two sheets of 3D tiles. Once you assemble them you get a staircase, a couple of 5' high platforms, a couple of 10' platforms, a double door, and a few tables. The beauty of these is that one side is wood and the other side is stone. Just take them apart and flip the sides to change texture. I see getting a lot of use out of the stairs and platforms with my old standard stone dungeon tiles.

Combine the fun of fantasy roleplay with the popularity of zombies and you have "Dead Reign" which has been written and designed by roleplay expert Siembieda with the assistance of Josh Hilden and Joshua Sanford. Civilization has ended as we know it with the emergence of the undead. There is no government, no army, no television or internet. The cities have gone dark and zombies are everywhere. "Dead Reign" players are provided with a complete gaming universe that includes six apocalyptic character classes; sen types of zombies (plus the Half-Living); background information on zombies, 'Death Cults', random tables, a wealth of adventure ideas, all combining to make a complete role-playing game that will provide hours (and even days) of non-repetitious gaming fun. Enhanced with occasional black-and-white illustrations and 'Quick Find Tables', "Dead Reign" is a welcome addition to personal role-play gaming collections. Also very highly recommended from Palladium Books are "Beyond The Supernatural" and "Nightbane" dark fantasy role play games. Read more...

Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide

Absolutely entertaining book that covers the history of this genre from it's inception in the 30s with White Zombie(1932) through today's splatter fests.
I could not believe how many classics were covered in this volume, and it was a pleasant surprise to find an intelligent author who offers valuable criticism, while understanding his audience.
Now,I did not agree with all that Mr.Kay says(He has a top 25 at the end of the book that includes John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness!)
However his enthusiasm and knowledge of the genre makes up for my minor quibbles, and the interviews that he got for the book were fine and insighful, ranging from Director Stuart Gordon to make-up artist,Greg Nicotero.
It's also fun to read about his opinions on what constitutes a "zombie" film.
There is a chapter that excludes ghosts, ghouls and Frankenstein's Monster, and he makes a valid point that Friday the 13th's Jason is indeed,a super zombie!

Product Description
This book contains the definitive, illustrated history of one of the most popular and important mechanical puzzles of all time. It can be argued that the Fifteen Puzzle in 1880 had the greatest impact on American and European society during of any mechanical puzzle the world has ever known.
Books by famous mathematicians tell that a deaf mute invented the 15 puzzle, but encyclopedias, other books and web sites say it was invented by Sam Loyd who Martin Gardner called "America’s greatest puzzle designer". Or has Sam Loyd, who said he invented the puzzle, continued to fool the world for more than 100 years?

The true story of the puzzle is told here for the first time.
• The real inventor and his patent application records were found.
• The story of how the puzzle came to be manufactured.
• Proof that the 15 puzzle is mathematically impossible to solve.
• How a young New Yorker solved it.
• The worldwide puzzle craze that it created. Read more...

Many people think that Halloween is a “devil worshipping” holiday celebrated by people who don’t believe in God, but the truth is that Halloween really has its basic origins in the Catholic Church.
Halloween means “All Saints Eve” or “All Hallows Eve”. All Saints Day is a religious holiday observed by the Catholic Church and set aside for worship of all the saints in heaven. They used to consider it with all solemnity as one of the most significant observances of the Church year. Read more...

And it so happens that those people some how manage to get customers who pay a lot of amount than what the helicopter deserves. Since such customers stay in one or other business they don’t bother to spend .
And I get horrified by when i come across such people who paid such mind whoomping amounts. When i enquire them about the magazines they used to come with one or the other lame reasons. Some of them would say they didn’t have enough time and some of them would say much worse reasons. When I listen to such reasons i keep thinking that these guys had enough time to work and make up the required amount of money and they didn’t have enough time to go through such magazines. I don’t think so.
Well any how nowadays customers are becoming much more responsible about their purchases and i hope this trend keeps on continuing. Since I don’t like to see people in their debt. Read more...

Product Description:

Hailed by Sports Illustrated as the "Edward Gibbon of baseball history," Harold Seymour is the first professional historian to produce an authoritative, multivolume chronicle of America's national pastime. The first two volumes of this study--The Early Years and The Golden Age--won universal acclaim. Now, in The People's Game, Seymour offers the first book devoted entirely to the history of the game outside of the professional leagues, revealing how, from its early beginnings up to World War II, baseball truly became the great American pastime. He explores the bond between baseball and boys through the decades, the game's place in institutions from colleges to prisons to the armed forces, the rise of women's baseball that coincided with nineteenth century feminism, and the struggles of black players and clubs from the later years of slavery up to the Second World War.

Ramp tricks—skate moves made on, over, or around wood ramps, cement bowls, and half-pipes—are a key, albeit challenging, component of skateboarding. Hundreds of captioned, sequential photographs demonstrate precisely how these exacting moves are safely made in this indispensable guide to 40 ramp tricks. Beginning with basic moves, including stalls, grinds, and slides, skaters gradually learn the particular positioning and balance needed to perform more advanced tricks such as flips and airs. A brief history of ramp skateboarding examines the birth of the genre as well as champions of the sport, including the pioneering Dogtown Crew and current stars Bob Burnquist and Tony Hawk.

Amazon.com Review
Scott Adams, creator of the popular comic strip "Dilbert," has written a modern-day parable about a young man and an unlikely mentor. God's Debris starts with a young deliveryman trying to hand over a package to a man with a San Francisco address. But delivering the package to this old man proves to be as difficult as trying to understand the meaning of God.

"It's for you," the old man tells the narrator, gesturing to the package.

"What's in the package?" the narrator asks.

"It's the answer to your question."

    "I wasn't expecting any answers,"

the deliveryman admits. About this time, the narrator begins to realize that he's not dealing with a feeble-minded old man; he's dealing with a situation that could alter his life. The sincerity and metaphysical complexity of this fable will surprise those who expect comedy, but Adams is following a tradition set by such writers as Dan Millman (Way of the Peaceful Warrior) and Richard Bach (Illusions). As in many parables that have come before, the deliveryman learns the meaning of life from an illusive mentor who seems to arise from a wrinkle in time. The cleverness of the God's Debris concept is original and bound to leave readers pondering some altered definitions of God, the universe, and just about everything else. --Gail Hudson

Book Description:

Is a carpsucker a carp or a sucker? Where can you find the largest eelpout in the United States? Can you catch creek chubs and fry them for supper?

These questions and more are answered within the pages of Fishing for Buffalo. Rob Buffler and Tom Dickson dispel myths and rumors about rough fish with credible biological information while also demonstrating the joy of angling for nontraditional fish. The wealth of information within qualifies this book as a fishing bible for the growing number of rough fishing enthusiasts in the United States and makes it easy to identify the rough fish you may catch. It even includes a sampling of Dickson and Buffler’s favorite recipes, such as Burbot Boulangere and Deviled Grilled Cisco.

Rough fish may be a lot of things—ugly, unruly, or elusive—but they are definitely not boring.

Product Description:

The Supremes were the most successful female vocal group in history. Of the three original members--Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard—two told their life stories in bestselling books. Only Florence Ballard, the spunky teenager who founded the group, remained silent. But, in the months before her 1976 death, Flo actually did tell her own side of the Supremes story—and the story of her entire life—to Peter Benjaminson, who recorded her words on tape.

In this book, for the first time, is Flo Ballard’s entire heartbreaking tale, revealing: the suprising identity of the man who raped her before she entered the music business; the details of her love-hate relationship with Motown Records czar Berry Gordy—and an account of their first and only date; her serious drinking problem and ignored pleas for treatment; her never-ending desire to sing lead and how she was prevented from doing so; her attempts to get her life back on track after being brutally expelled from the Supremes; and much more.

Flo Ballard traveled around the world in luxury, chatting with royalty and heads of state, applauded by millions. But when she died at the age of 32, she was a lonely mother of three ju Read more...

The Second World War was in the bottom of the ninth inning in Germany and Japan, but back at home the bases were loaded with baseball players, many of them new to the big leagues. While the game's stars traded their stockings and gloves for khaki and rifles, America's leaders believed baseball would boost morale at home. Teams filled out their rosters with retired stars such as Jimmie Foxx and Babe Herman; with players like Pete Gray and Dick Sipek, whose disabilities had kept them out of the majors; and with teenagers like 17-year-olds Putsy Caballero and Tommy Brown. But while the level of major league talent had reached its nadir, war-weary fans packed the ballparks, eagerly following pennant races as intense as any that preceded the war. Read more...

Girls! Girls! The carnivals, the girls, and the scams-a journey back through time to the glory years of traveling adult entertainment. Many of these photos have never been seen before, and no one has published a book exclusively devoted to the women (and men) who performed in girl shows. Included are 200 photos from 1900 onwards in A. W. Stencell's book about this cultural phenomenon. Covered are girl shows' European origins, their American developments, their heyday after World War II, and their ultimate demise in the face of men's magazines, strip clubs, and x-rated videos.

The creator of "The Simpsons" and "Futurama," reveals the art of brilliant character design, backgrounds, and prop art in this lavishly detailed handbook that unveils the complex secrets behind the deceptively simple and universally loved Simpsons characters. With creative insights, artists' sketches, helpful insider hints, and step–by–step instructions, enter the imagination of "master doodler" Matt Groening and receive some professional "how–to" advice from many of the animators and directors who have made "The Simpsons" the longest–running animated show and situation comedy in television history. In our technological era when animation has become increasingly digitalized, this unique handbook records the genesis of some of the most extraordinary examples of the art of hand–drawn animated characters.

Card Games for Dummies

Card Games for Dummies bills itself as "the fun and easy way to play and win your favorite card games." The book is broken down into different sections that broadly encompass the types of card games available: card-swapping games (gin and rummy), trick-taking games (whist and euchre), games where you try to score as many points as possible (pinochle), and games where you don't want to score any points at all (hearts). Each chapter starts with the fundamentals--the definition of a "trick," for example--and builds from there, progressing from the simplest games in each category to the more complex.

Written by journalist Barry Rigal, Card Games for Dummies is a nice companion piece to the more staid Complete Hoyle's Games. Unlike Hoyle's, Card Games for Dummies not only explains game mechanics, but gives you useful tips for play, provides the lowdown on strategy, and warns of the boneheaded blunders that you'd undoubtedly make if you'd been taught the rules and nothing more.

So if you've always wanted to learn cribbage, but never wanted to ask a friend for a tutorial, this is the book for you. One word of warning: if you want to learn how to play bridge, you won't find much here other than a synopsis of the rules and a recommendation for Bridge for Dummies. --Matthew Baldwin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Nothing so frightens a man as the announcement that he is expected to respond to a toast on some appallingly near-by occasion. All ideas he may ever have had on the subject melt away and like a drowning man he clutches furiously at the nearest solid object. This book is intended for such rescue purpose, buoyant and trustworthy but, it is to be hoped, not heavy.
Let the frightened toaster turn first to the key word of his topic in this dictionary alphabet of selections and perchance he may find toast, story, definition or verse that may felicitously introduce his remarks. Then as he proceeds to outline his talk and to put it into sentences, he may find under one of the many subject headings a bit which will happily and scintillatingly drive home the ideas he is unfolding.
While the larger part of the contents is humorous, there are inserted many quotations of a serious nature which may serve as appropriate literary ballast.
The jokes and quotes gathered for the toaster have been placed under the subject headings where it seemed that they might be most useful, even at the risk of the joke turning on the compilers. To extend the usefulness of such pseudo-cataloging, cross references, similar and dissimilar to those of a library card catalog, have been included.
Should a large number of the inclusions look familiar, let us remark that the friends one likes best are those who have been already tried and trusted and are the most welcome in times of need. However, there are stor Read more...

Writing in a clear and lively style, Jacob Smith looks at these media technologies and industries through the lens of performance, bringing to light a fascinating nexus of performer, technology, and audience. Combining theories of film sound, cultural histories of sound technologies and industries, and theories of performance, Smith convincingly connects disparate and largely neglected performance niches to explore the development of a modern vocal performance. Vocal Tracks: Performance and Sound Media demonstrates the voice to be a vehicle of performance, identity, and culture and illustrates both the interconnection of all these categories and their relation to the media technologies of the past century. Read more...

Product Description:

What was I thinking? Another autobiography? A third? Who did I think I was, Winston Churchill? Why would I want to set my pen loose on hundreds of sheets of notebook paper unless I really felt I had something worth writing about?

Besides, I had a wrestling comeback to prepare for, mentally and physically, provided I could get Vince McMahon and the WWE creative staff to embrace what I was sure was the single greatest storyline of my career.

Then it hit me: the storyline. I would give WWE fans unprecedented access to World Wrestling Entertainment, covering everything from conception to completion. I would recount how I felt about specific interviews and matches, whether they helped or hurt. I would expose the backstage politics, shed some light on my rocky relationship with Vince McMahon, offer insights into my personal dealings with WWE Superstars, and tell stories about my favorite Divas.

But I wasn't interested in writing just a wrestling book. I wanted to share moments from my personal life as well, from a humorous look at my unlikely dinner with polarizing neocon Paul Wolfowitz, to my haunting meeting with a severely burned boy in Afghanistan, to my peculiar obsession with a Read more...

Summary: Stop whining about it being "to powerful" or comparing psionics to wizards
Rating: 5

Ok ill jump straight to it. Psionics using second edition rules (which is the correct way since third edition makes them nothing more then weak sorcerers) are not unbalbalancing in any way because of one very important aspect. All psionics have to be LAWFUL. That simple. They are not going to read random peoples thoughts, teleport into random rooms to steal, dominate or mind control anyone "just because". They need a good reason to do what they are doing, if they dont have a good reason then they are becoming chaotic and will loose access to their abilitys. A chaotic person doesnt have the discipline to do what a psion does.

In Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Ebberron, amd most campagins, magic is a invicable force that affects all things in a invisable weave (kinda like the Force in Star Wars) in Dragonlance they come from the moons, and in Dark Sun they come from living plants and animals, that is how mages get there power. A psionic gets his power soley from his mind, he can do just fine in a magic dead zone.

Finally psionics are not overpowered because i gurante the Read more...

Summary: Whats in a hole? More than a hobbit!
Rating: 4

Have you ever been contemplating your AD and D game and realized that all your halflings are Tolkien hobbits? Or realized that all your Gnomes are tinkerer illusionists?

Come on, the small folk have lives and personalities. There are halfling guards after all, and gnomish warriors of great elder tales.
Get an inside look at the society of the small folk, what they do, what specialty classes have evolved.
Add this, and as many of the other supplements as you can to your game. All are valuable resources.

Summary: Complete perhaps, but uninspired
Rating: 3

Third edition Dungeons and Dragons changes the veteran races of gnome and halfling, but those resistant to such change shouldn't pick up this volume to see what it is they preferred about the older versions, nor should enthusiasts of the races, of any version, think they're getting something that will be of much use to them, either for ideas or actually crunchy rules stuff.

Part of the problem is that both races had (and perhaps still have) something of an identity issue. Second edition AD and D (and previous) Read more...

Summary: Absolutely get this book
Rating: 5

This book is a MUST for your D and D collection. This book allows you to play druids that are specialized for swamps, jungles, deserts, polar, and forest climes; no single catch-all druid abilities. The kits are also wonderful and will be excellent sources for new 3e prestige classes. Want ideas for your druids in your campaign? This book gives it to you in spades. DEFINITELY go find this book.

Summary: A Worthwhile Purchase
Rating: 5

Even if you've moved on to 3rd Edition D and D, this is an excellent purchase for those needing more info/ideas about druids. The book has several useful sections.

One is on branch portraits, so you can play a mountain, desert, arctic, underground, swamp, or jungle druid instead of a forest one. Then there is a section on 'kits,' specializations for druid characters.

A chapter on druidic society, organization, and philosophy can be useful in defining druid characters. What is especially nice is a collection of new spells and magic items which are appropriate for druid use. What is especially nice and an interesting twist is a section on herbal magic, if your character is interested in harvesting herbs and brewing po Read more...

Summary: Not quite the UA version, but nice to see nonetheless.
Rating: 4

Although not quite what you'd expect if you are familiar with the UA barbarian, the 2nd edition barbarian still fills in a void that the fighter's "barbarian kit" just never could fill. Its quite an investment for what many would argue is just a specialized fighter kit, though, so if you're not terribly interested in barbarians (or unfamiliar with the UA barbarian), you might prefer to pass on this book.

For those of us who missed "real" barbarians, though, this is very welcome. A few things may seem silly, but always remember that the great thing about AD and D is "house rules" being a recognized force. Just because the book says something, the DM is always free to modify it to better suit his/her tastes. The ultimate establisher of rules is the DM and his/her playing group. The rest is just a baseline to work from. Read more...

So if you want the real work, this is the book.

So what's all the fuss about?
Cold Reading is the most powerful inter-active psychological technique in the world. It is useful in selling, business negotiations, interviews, presentations and even romance! If you want to influence what another person thinks and feels about you, cold reading is the most effective technique in the world.

Cold reading is also often used by people who pretend they give 'psychic' readings, and it enables them to give 'amazingly accurate' readings to complete strangers. Read more about What is cold reading?.

I have given more test conditions demonstrations that cold reading works than anyone else in the world. On a BBC documentary, two women said my readings were "99.9%" and "95%" accurate! See Demonstrations under test conditions. In my demonstrations, I always tell the truth in the end so that no-one is left thinking I'm really psychic.

This is the definitive book on cold reading. It explains everything there is to know about this limitless technique! How can you apparently tell complete strangers about names, dates and events that mean something to them? In business, how can you seemingly get inside the mind of every lead, customer, client, colleague and rival? This book explains all, and is the most authoritative ever written on Read more...

Reconstructing American Historical Cinema: From Cimarron to Citizen Kane

Reconstructing American Historical Cinema explores Hollywood's pivotal interpretations of national history during the height of the studio system. In a radical departure from traditional studies of film and history, J. E. Smyth looks at rarely discussed production records and scripts from studio archives, arguing that certain classical Hollywood filmmakers were actively engaged in a self-conscious and often critical filmic writing of national history. Her unique approach unites the study of popular and academic historical writing, historical fiction, and screenwriting, providing a rich context for the industry's commitment to American history.
Reconstructing American Historical Cinema uncovers Hollywood's diverse and conflicted attitudes toward American history in narratives including nineteenth-century frontier epics, gangster biopics, and histories of silent-era Hollywood. Read more...
